The Department of Irrigation has warned that water levels in the Mavil Aru tank sluice have breached safety levels.
As such, authorities urge residents in surrounding low-lying areas to evacuate immediately and move to designated safe locations.
It was reported earlier that the Mavil Aru sluice was under pressure due to heavy inflows from the Mahaweli River. (Newswire)
