A senior official attached to Sri Lanka’s Presidential Secretariat has been arrested over allegations that, while serving in his former role as Deputy Controller of the Foreign Missions Division at the Department of Immigration and Emigration, he helped prepare a forged passport for an organised crime suspect, Police said.
The suspect, a 41-year-old Senior Assistant Secretary attached to the Parliamentary and Cabinet Affairs Division of the Presidential Secretariat, was arrested on Friday by officers of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB).
Police said the investigation revealed that the suspect had allegedly prepared a forged passport using another person’s identity to help an organised crime figure flee the country.
Investigators said the alleged offence was committed during his tenure as Deputy Controller in charge of the Foreign Missions Division of the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
The Central Crime Investigation Bureau is conducting further investigations into the case. (Newswire)
