Authorities have identified 87 unauthorized structures along the coastal stretch from Bambalapitiya to the Wellawatte area, Environment Minister Dr. Dhammika Patabendi said.
The minister said steps will be taken to remove the unauthorized structures within this month.
According to Patabendi, five zones requiring protection and conservation measures have also been identified due to unauthorized construction along the coastline.
The Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management is responsible for overseeing the protection of the coastline along Marine Drive, he said. (Newswire)
