Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe has said measures have been taken to prevent shortages of goods in the country during the upcoming festive season.

He said discussions were being held with institutions including the Cooperative Wholesale Establishment (CWE), Sathosa and cooperative societies, as well as Pettah importers’ associations and local manufacturers, to ensure an uninterrupted supply of goods to the market.

The Minister noted that some price fluctuations could occur, adding that such conditions were not unique to Sri Lanka.

However, he said the Government was engaging with importers and manufacturers to maintain market stability and minimise the burden on consumers. (Newswire)
