The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has taken control of the Kuliyapitiya and Udubaddawa Pradeshiya Sabhas, in which the National People’s Power (NPP) had won a majority of seats in the Local Government Elections.
It is reported that the SLPP had formed the two councils with the support of the SJB and other opposition political parties.
During an election held yesterday, the SLPP’s Wijesiri Ekanayake was elected, with a majority of votes, as the Chairman of the Kuliyapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha.
The NPP had won 21 seats, SJB 09 seats, SLPP 06 seats, UNP 04 seats, ACMC 02 seats, and the Sarvajana Balaya 01 seat, following the Local Government Elections.
Meanwhile, the SLPP’s Nihal Jayasinghe was elected the Chairman of the Udubaddawa Pradeshiya Sabha with a majority of votes during the election held yesterday.
The NPP had secured 09 seats, SJB 06 seats, SLPP 03 seats, and UNP 01 seat at the Pradeshiya Sabha following the Local Government Elections. (Newswire)
