Australian Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs and International Education, Julian Hill, has participated in a traditional Buddhist Kathina ceremony with Sri Lankan Buddhist monks in Australia.

The Australian minister shared photographs of the occasion on his official Facebook page, showing him serving food to Buddhist monks as part of the religious observance.

“Kathina, a 2,500 year old Buddhist tradition,” Hill wrote in his Facebook post.

Kathina is an important annual Buddhist ceremony held following the conclusion of the three-month Vas retreat, during which devotees offer robes and other necessities to Buddhist monks.

Hill, who represents the Bruce electorate in the Australian Federal Parliament, has served as a federal parliamentarian since 2016. (Newswire)
