
The Police Illegal Assets Investigation Division has issued a 14-day freezing order on a Toyota SUV valued at approximately Rs. 35 million, suspected to have been purchased using proceeds from drug trafficking.
According to a police statement issued on September 17, the vehicle is linked to a resident of Thanamalwila who is under investigation for allegedly acquiring assets through illegal activities.
The investigation was launched following a complaint by the director of the Police Narcotics Bureau.
Police said the Toyota SUV is suspected to have been purchased using money earned through drug trafficking.
The freezing order, effective from September 16, prohibits the sale, transfer or other disposal of the vehicle for 14 days under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
