
The Sri Lanka Navy, together with the Kayts Police, seized approximately 368 kilograms of foreign-origin cannabis during a joint operation in the Suruvil beach area of Kayts Island in Jaffna.
During the operation, authorities also arrested one suspect and took into custody a dinghy believed to have been used to transport the narcotics.
The search operation was carried out by personnel attached to SLNS Kanchadewa of the Northern Naval Command in coordination with the Kayts Police Station. Upon inspecting the suspicious dinghy at the beach, officers discovered the cannabis concealed in 175 packages.
The street value of the seized stock of foreign cannabis is estimated to exceed Rs. 73 million.
The suspect, identified as a 35-year-old resident of the Velanai area on Kayts Island, was handed over to the Kayts Police Station along with the seized cannabis and the dinghy for further legal proceedings. (Newswire)
