Sri Lanka has earned USD 185 million (approximately Rs. 60 billion) from the cinnamon industry as of August 30, 2026, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation.

The Ministry said the government is targeting an income of Rs. 100 billion from the cinnamon industry by the end of 2026.

To achieve this target, the government has allocated Rs. 365 million to the Department of Cinnamon Development through the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the Ministry, the funds will be utilised to establish 2,500 acres of new cinnamon cultivation in non-traditional growing areas and promote industries producing value-added cinnamon products.

The allocation will also support obtaining internationally recognised quality certifications for the cinnamon industry and developing entrepreneurship within the sector.

The Ministry said these initiatives are aimed at further developing the country’s cinnamon industry and achieving its targeted revenue for 2026. (Newswire)
