Police have recovered over 80 grams of cocaine from a female foreign national who was arrested earlier this week in connection with a drug trafficking investigation.

According to Police, the cocaine, weighing 80.9 grams, was recovered from excrement passed by the suspect during a medical examination at the Colombo National Hospital yesterday (16).

The examination was conducted following a court order to determine whether the suspects had concealed cocaine inside their bodies.

The female suspect was among four foreign nationals, including two men and two women, arrested by the Colombo District Crime Division during an operation at a hotel and a shopping mall in Colpetty on October 12.

Police had seized 1.46 kilograms of cocaine during the initial operation.

The four suspects were subsequently produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court, which granted seven-day detention orders for further questioning.

The Colombo District Crime Division is conducting further investigations. (Newswire)
