TikTok has removed more than 870,000 videos uploaded from Sri Lanka during the first six months of 2026 for violating its Community Guidelines, according to the company’s latest transparency reports.
Data published by TikTok show that 871,446 videos were removed between January and June 2026, including 441,089 during the first quarter and 430,357 during the second quarter.
The figures indicate a slight decline of 10,732 removals, or approximately 2.4%, in the second quarter compared to the first.
What types of videos were removed?
According to TikTok’s second-quarter report, the most common categories of removed videos worldwide included sensitive or mature content, dangerous activities, sexualised behaviour and violations of safety standards.
The global breakdown showed:
– 19.5% – Sensitive or mature content.
– 16.1% – Content related to mental and behavioural health.
– 13.8% – Body exposure and sexualised behaviour.
– 13.7% – Violations of safety and civility standards.
– 13.5% – Dangerous activities and challenges.
– 1.8% – Edited media and AI-generated content violating platform rules.
However, TikTok has not disclosed a separate breakdown of the types of videos removed specifically from Sri Lanka. The above percentages represent global removals, not Sri Lankan content.
More than 33,000 videos restored
The company revealed that 20,051 Sri Lankan videos removed during the first quarter were subsequently restored, while another 12,960 were restored during the second quarter, bringing the six-month total to 33,011.
TikTok said 99.4% of videos removed in Sri Lanka during the second quarter were identified before users reported them, compared to 99.1% during the first quarter.
However, the proportion of proactively removed videos taken down within 24 hours declined from 95% to 93.9%.
The removal rate remained at 0.5% of published videos in Sri Lanka during both quarters.
Globally, TikTok removed approximately 188.3 million videos during the second quarter, with automated technologies, including AI moderation, accounting for 97.4% of removals.
The company also removed 278.4 million comments, 146.8 million fake accounts and 26.8 million accounts suspected of belonging to children under 13 worldwide during the same period.
TikTok said its automated moderation systems are designed to identify harmful or rule-breaking content more quickly and improve safety across the platform. (Newswire)
