National Milad-un-Nabi celebration to be held in Negombo under President’s patronage

The 42nd National Milad-un-Nabi celebration will be held at Al-Hilal College in Periyamulla, Negombo, on Aug. 26 at 3 p.m. under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Deputy Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs Muneer Mulaffer said.

Speaking at a media briefing at the Government Information Department on today (19), Mulaffer said this year’s celebration would be held under the theme “Coexistence, Brotherhood and Unity” with a series of programmes aimed at promoting religious values and strengthening social harmony.

The programme will begin with a blood donation campaign at Al-Falah College in Negombo on Aug. 22, followed by a tree-planting programme on Aug. 23.

A “Visit My Mosque” programme will be held on Aug. 24, providing an opportunity to learn about the cultural environment surrounding mosques. An exhibition based on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad will also be held at Al-Hilal College on Aug. 24 and 25.

As part of the celebrations, financial assistance will be provided for infrastructure development at 12 mosques in the Gampaha District. Eight major mosques will receive Rs. 1 million each, while four other mosques will receive Rs. 500,000 each.

A publication highlighting the cultural and historical significance of the Muslim community in the Gampaha District will also be launched, while a commemorative stamp featuring a historic mosque in the district is scheduled to be issued. (Newswire)
