Main opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) was absent from the newly formed political movement against constitutional dictatorship, despite several major parties joining forces at its inaugural meeting in Colombo on Sunday.
According to the list released by the United National Party (UNP), the SJB was not among the parties that formally supported or attended the launch. However, SJB parliamentarian Kavinda Jayawardena was present, though not identified as a representative of his party.
The meeting, held under the theme “Let’s defeat constitutional dictatorship,” brought together former President Maithripala Sirisena, former minister G.L. Peiris, the UNP, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Sri Lanka Freedom Party, National Freedom Front, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, Sri Lanka Mahajana Party, Tamil and Muslim parties, and several smaller political groups.
SJB leader Sajith Premadasa did not attend the gathering. However, he has visited former President Ranil Wickremesinghe in detention multiple times since Wickremesinghe’s arrest last week. (Newswire)
