More than 250 women from around the world are set to participate in Raid Amazones Sri Lanka 2026, an international adventure challenge scheduled to take place in Kalutara from November 2 to 10.

The event will bring together international participants for a series of outdoor challenges combining physical endurance, teamwork and cultural exploration, while promoting Sri Lanka as an adventure tourism destination.

Raid Amazones, founded in 2001 by French adventure event specialist Alexandre Debanne, is a women-only adventure competition featuring non-motorised sporting activities.

The 2026 event marks the eighth Sri Lankan edition of the competition, which was first held in the country in 2004.

Participants will explore Kalutara’s coastal landscapes, rivers, wetlands and rural communities while taking part in sporting challenges and experiencing local traditions, cuisine and cultural activities.

Connaissance de Ceylan has been appointed the official ground handling partner and will coordinate local logistics in collaboration with the international organisers and relevant stakeholders.

“Hosting an international event of this scale requires more than operational planning; it requires a deep understanding of the destination and the ability to bring together different experiences into one seamless journey,” said Maxime Wickramasinghe, Director of Marketing and Business Development at Connaissance de Ceylan.

He said the event would provide an opportunity to showcase Sri Lanka’s natural diversity, hospitality and tourism experiences to international visitors.

The event is organised through a partnership involving Raid Amazones, SriLankan Airlines and Connaissance de Ceylan, with support from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.

Turyaa Kalutara will serve as the official accommodation partner for participants and the international delegation.

Organisers expect the event to increase Sri Lanka’s international visibility and promote adventure and experiential tourism, particularly among European travellers. (Newswire)
