The Meteorological Department has indicated that the prevailing showery conditions are expected to continue in the southwestern part of the island today (7th).

Showers will occur intermittently in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Northwestern provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur in a few places in the Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts in the evening or night.

Strong winds, with speeds of around 40-50 km/h, can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, and Northwestern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee, Hambantota, and Monaragala districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
