Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara says he is deeply shocked and saddened by the deadly clash at the Negombo Prison, adding that he must accept responsibility as the minister in charge of the institution.
Speaking to the media on Monday (6), the Minister said the situation at the prison has now been brought under control, but stressed that the loss of human lives cannot be justified.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of human lives. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who died,” he said.
The Minister said authorities will thoroughly investigate what happened and take steps to ensure that such an incident does not occur again.
He also stressed that his focus is on determining the facts and preventing a recurrence, rather than placing blame on any individual. (Newswire)
