Spain has decided to withdraw its ambassador to Israel, according to the country’s official state gazette, in a move that reflects growing diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
The decision means Spain’s diplomatic mission in Israel will now be headed by a chargé d’affaires instead of a full ambassador.
Spain has been one of the European Union’s most outspoken critics of Israel’s military actions in Gaza and has also criticised the recent war involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Relations between Madrid and Tel Aviv have deteriorated in recent months, particularly after Spain recognised a Palestinian state and repeatedly called for stronger international action over the Gaza conflict.
The latest move further signals Spain’s dissatisfaction with Israel’s ongoing military operations and the broader escalation of tensions in the Middle East. (Newswire)
