BIA records 78% profit surge & 16% rise in flight movements in first half of 2025

The Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has recorded a sharp rise in both profits and flight movements during the first half of 2025, according to the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation.

Operational profit reached Rs. 16,133 million between January and June 2025, marking a 78 per cent increase from Rs. 9,049 million in the same period last year.

During the same period, total flight movements grew by 16 per cent compared to 2024. 

International operations rose by 17 per cent, with the highest growth of 22 per cent recorded in March, while domestic operations increased by 10 per cent, peaking with a 38 per cent rise in June.

Authorities expect both profits and operations to expand further with the onset of the upcoming tourism season. (Newswire)
