Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe arrived at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing probe into an overseas trip allegedly funded with government resources, local media reported.
Wickremesinghe was summoned over a visit to London that investigators say included private events but was financed by state funds. The CID has said the trip cost about Rs. 16.9 million.
Earlier this month, investigators questioned former presidential secretary Saman Ekanayake and former private secretary Sandra Perera as part of the inquiry.
Reporters confirmed that Wickremesinghe arrived at the CID headquarters in Colombo on Friday morning. (Newswire)
