The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has strongly denied allegations made by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) that its General Secretary, Tilvin Silva, had contacted recently arrested Charith Abeysinghe and invited him to meet President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
In a statement, the JVP said the claim, made by SJB member Waruna Rajapaksha during a media briefing on Friday, was “completely false.”
The party said the allegation was an attempt to divert public attention from the bribery case involving Abeysinghe and accused the SJB of trying to create a false narrative to defend those linked to the incident.
The JVP further stated that it had no interest in recruiting individuals involved in criminal activities and rejected suggestions that it had attempted to bring Abeysinghe into the party or the government.
The party also warned that it would not hesitate to pursue legal action against those responsible for making what it described as false and defamatory statements. (Newswire)
