Three employees have sustained minor injuries in an explosion at a bandage factory in the Meepe area of Padukka today (30), police said.
The injured employees have been admitted to the Homagama Base Hospital for treatment.
According to police, the explosion occurred while workers were attempting to cut and modify a diesel tank using gas equipment.
The tank, which had been removed from a fuel filling station and purchased at an auction, was reportedly intended to be used for storing lubricating oil at the factory.
Police said the explosion occurred as the workers attempted to modify the tank without removing the fuel remaining inside it.
Two male employees sustained injuries in the explosion, while a female employee was hospitalised after a roof tile fell onto her head.
The Padukka Police are conducting further investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
