A motorcyclist suspected of attacking vehicles with a club along the Kaduwela–Kollupitiya road near the Ethul Kotte junction was arrested by Welikada Police and produced before court on Monday.
Police said the incident took place on the evening of January 12, when the suspect allegedly caused damage to several vehicles by striking them with a wooden pole while riding a motorcycle.
The suspect was produced before the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court No. 02 on January 13, where the court ordered that he be remanded until January 22.
According to police, the suspect is a 29-year-old resident of the Ragama area. A report obtained after producing him before the Judicial Medical Officer at the Colombo National Hospital indicated that he is addicted to narcotic drugs.
The court has further instructed prison authorities to take necessary steps to determine whether the suspect is suffering from any mental health condition.
