Leader of the House Bimal Rathnayake has withdrawn the names of three public officials from a list of 50 cases tabled in Parliament earlier this month, saying their inclusion was not necessary to support his argument.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday (Oct. 22), Rathnayake said he had concerns about the inclusion of Roopawathi Keethiswaran, Thilan Wijayantha and Jayantha Fernando, a former additional secretary to a ministry.
He said the three officials may or may not have been serving in government positions at the relevant time, adding that their names were not essential to his argument.
Rathnayake tabled the list of 50 cases on October 8, involving allegations and investigations concerning politicians and public officials.
He reiterated that the investigations were not being pursued for political revenge, but involved cases and complaints initiated in previous years that had been stalled or failed to progress for various reasons. (Newswire)
