A former top official from the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLRDC) has been arrested over alleged corruption linked to a high-profile opening ceremony during the Rajapaksa administration.
Former General Manager of the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLRDC), M.R. Srimathi Mallika Kumari Senadheera, has been arrested by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
The arrest is linked to the first phase of the Werassa Ganga Project. Investigators allege that Senadheera unlawfully selected an institution for the project’s inauguration event outside proper procurement procedures, thereby granting it an undue advantage.
Additionally, although no funds had been allocated for the ceremony from the project budget, Rs. 27.6 million was reportedly spent from project funds, resulting in a financial loss to the state.
She is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today. (Newswire)
