Sri Lankan cricket legend Sanath Jayasuriya has been appointed Brand Ambassador for Global Housing & Real Estate (Pvt) Ltd (GHR), as the property developer prepares to expand its luxury real estate portfolio along Sri Lanka’s southern coast.

The partnership was announced in Colombo on September 14 under the theme “Two Gamechangers, A New Beginning.”

GHR said the partnership comes as the company enters its next phase of expansion, including plans for a new high-rise development along the southern coastline.

“As we look ahead, I am thrilled to hint at what is coming next. GHR is on the verge of unveiling a truly extraordinary high-rise landmark along the southern coast. This project is going to set a new standard for luxury living and investment in Sri Lanka,” Jayasuriya said.

GHR Chairman Dasun Wickramarathna said Jayasuriya was selected to represent the company because of similarities between his approach to cricket and GHR’s efforts to introduce new concepts to Sri Lanka’s property sector.

“When looking for a voice to represent GHR’s ethos, Sanath Jayasuriya was the natural choice. Just as Sanath disrupted traditional international cricket and redefined how the world viewed the opening overs, GHR challenged traditional approaches to real estate and established a new benchmark in luxury living,” Wickramarathna said.

Jayasuriya said he was pleased to partner with a company that shared his emphasis on vision and innovation.

“Throughout my life, I have always believed in vision, commitment, and backing pioneers who are not afraid to change the game,” he said.

GHR has operated in Sri Lanka’s real estate sector for more than two decades and says it introduced the hotel residency concept to the local market in 2016.

The model combines hospitality and real estate investment, allowing investors to own property linked to hotel operations and potential investment returns.

GHR currently has a hotel residency portfolio spanning Negombo, Sigiriya, Nuwara Eliya and Hikkaduwa.

The company said its planned expansion towards the southern coast is aimed at tapping growing demand linked to Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, including interest from local investors, overseas buyers and Sri Lankans living abroad.I’d lead with the southern expansion alongside Sanath’s appointment because it gives the story a stronger news angle than a straightforward brand ambassador announcement.
