The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has announced that it has surpassed the Rs. 1 trillion tax revenue milestone, recording collections exceeding the figure as of May 18, 2026.

In a statement issued today (21), Commissioner General Rukdevi P.H. Fernando said the achievement marks a significant step in strengthening the country’s financial stability and supporting public services.

The IRD thanked citizens who fulfilled their obligations by paying taxes directly and indirectly, noting that public contributions played a key role in reaching the milestone.

The department said the collection of over Rs. 1 trillion reflects continued revenue mobilisation efforts amid the country’s ongoing economic recovery process. (Newswire)
