Driver arrested after viral video shows dangerous three-wheeler stunt

A three-wheeler driver has been arrested after a video showing dangerous driving in the Katugastota area went viral on social media, according to Deputy Inspector General of Police W.P.J. Senadheera of the Traffic and Road Safety Division.

DIG Senadheera said police first learned about the incident through social media after members of the public shared footage showing a three-wheeler driver performing reckless maneuvers on the road.‎

‎After the matter was reported to the officer-in-charge of Katugastota Police on Tuesday (10), after which the 26-year-old suspect believed to be responsible for the reckless driving was arrested.

‎A drug test conducted after the arrest revealed that the suspect had used cannabis, he said.

‎DIG Senadheera said the suspect was produced in court today and faces charges including attempted culpable homicide in connection with the incident.

‎Investigators also discovered that the transfer documents of the three-wheeler had not been properly signed. As a result, the individual who sold the vehicle in the Galaha area and the buyer are also being investigated under the Motor Traffic Act, DIG  said.

‎He also thanked public who alerted police to the incident and said police would continue to act on information provided by the public regarding dangerous driving and similar offences. (NewsWire)
