Several spells of showers are expected in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district, the Department of Meteorology said.
Showers or thundershowers are likely after 2:00 p.m. in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Some areas may experience fairly heavy rainfall, with accumulations around 50 mm.
Morning mist is expected in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts during the early hours.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
Showers are also expected at several locations in the sea areas off the coast from Pottuvil to Kankasanthurai via Batticaloa and Trincomalee. Showers or thundershowers may also develop in other surrounding sea areas during the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly at speeds of 25–35 km/h. Stronger gusts, reaching 45–50 km/h, are expected in sea areas from Kalutara to Mannar via Colombo and Puttalam, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The sea in these areas will be fairly rough at times, the Department said. Temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers. (Newswire)
