Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media, Nalinda Jayatissa will represent the Sri Lankan government at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected government of Bangladesh, officials confirmed.
The ceremony for the government led by Tarique Rahman is scheduled to be held on February 17 at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with around 1,200 domestic and international guests expected to attend.
Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dharmapala Weerakkody, said Jayatissa’s participation reflects ongoing diplomatic engagement and the cordial relations between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The ceremony is part of the transition following the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary election, in which Tarique Rahman secured a mandate to lead the new government.
Regional leaders and representatives from at least 13 countries, including India, Bhutan, Pakistan, Nepal and the Maldives, are also expected at the event. (Newswire)
