A shooting targeting a candidate contesting the Kalutara Municipal Council election from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has failed for the second time, police said.

Police said the incident occurred on the night of February 7, when an unidentified gunman attempted to open fire at the candidate in the Kalutara area. No injuries were reported.

The target of the attack has been identified as Bandula Prasanna, a candidate contesting the Kalutara Municipal Council election from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.

Investigations have revealed that Prasanna had also been targeted in a similar shooting attempt around nine months ago, which had likewise failed.

During investigations at the scene of the latest incident, police recovered a live round of ammunition used for a pistol and a mobile phone that had reportedly fallen to the ground.

Police said further investigations are underway to identify and arrest the suspects involved in the attempted shooting. (Newswire)
