Seven students have been arrested in connection with an assault on two other students in the Irattaperiyakulam area of Vavuniya, following the circulation of a video on social media showing the attack.
The incident, which was shared online under the title “Vavuniya Sigithi Pathalaya,” took place near the Irattaperiyakulam tank within the Irattaperiyakulam Police Division.
The suspects, aged between 14 and 17, were arrested by officers attached to the Irattaperiyakulam Police Station.
The two victims, both aged 15, are currently receiving inpatient treatment at the Vavuniya Hospital.
The seven suspects were produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (03), after which the court ordered that they be remanded at the Kebithigollewa Probation and Child Care Centre until June 10.
