A former chairman of the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority has been arrested over allegations of causing a Rs. 4,160, 000 loss to the government by issuing passenger transport permits outside the tender procedure, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) said.
The suspect, Opatha Vithanage Prasanna Sanjeewa, was arrested by CIABOC investigation officers at around 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday (15).
He is accused of violating the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority statute and issuing passenger transport permits outside the tender procedure, thereby causing a loss to the government and providing benefits to third parties.
The suspect is due to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. (Newswire)
