The Colombo South Division Criminal Investigation Department has arrested a retired Police Inspector in connection with the theft of Rs. 500 from case items at the Borella Police Station, it was reported.
According to the Lankadeepa newspaper, an audit report conducted in 2023 revealed that 57 case items stored in the case items room at Borella Police Station had gone missing.
The Police said the suspect had retired 51 days ago while serving at the Sammanthurai Police Station.
Earlier, in relation to the same crime, the Colombo South Division Criminal Investigation Department had arrested and produced before the court a Police Inspector, a Sub‑Inspector, and three Police Sergeants who had served at the Borella Police Station. (Newswire)
