Showery conditions are expected to intensify in southwestern Sri Lanka from the evening of May 12, the Department of Meteorology said.
Intermittent showers are forecast in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers are likely after 1 pm in parts of the Central, Uva and Eastern provinces.
Winds of 30–40 km/h are expected at times over the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces.
Authorities advise the public to take precautions against localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Showers are expected in sea areas from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be westerly to south-westerly at 30–40 km/h, increasing up to 55 km/h in sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Sea conditions in those areas will be rough at times, while other areas will remain moderate. Gusty winds and very rough seas are possible during thundershowers. (Newswire)
