Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine has refuted widespread reports that a viral video depicting a student clash involved ragging, confirming that the incident was a personal dispute between two student groups.
In an official statement released on November 4, 2026, the Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine clarified that the altercation occurred on November 2, 2026, between first-year students and seniors.
The administration highlighted that selectively edited video footage and altered photographs were deliberately circulated online to portray the personal dispute as a ragging incident and damage the university’s reputation.
The management assured that academic activities for first and second year batches are proceeding normally in a secure, ragging-free campus environment.
Both internal university disciplinary inquiries and formal police investigations are currently underway to take legal and administrative action against all individuals involved. (Newswire)
