Following the assassination attempt on former US President and presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Sri Lanka’s main opposition party, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), has called for tightened security for opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.
Speaking at a press briefing today, SJB MP Eran Wickramaratne urged the government to enhance security measures for SJB leader Sajith Premadasa.
“It is a very unfortunate incident. Irrespective of party differences, this attack must be severely condemned,” Wickramaratne said, referring to the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
“As soon as this incident was reported, I urged the government to review the security of opposition leader Sajith Premadasa and ensure his safety,” he added, noting that similar attacks have occurred against opposition politicians in the past. (NewsWire)
