A suspect in police custody has been killed after following an altercation with police officers, after he tried to allegedly strangle a police constable with the hand cuffs, the police said.
The suspect was arrested in suspicion to be involved in the recent shooting incident which took place in Avissawella, Thalduwa area where unidentified gunmen shot and killed 2 people and critically injuring 2 others.
Police said that the incident took place when the suspect was being transported to recover some items involved in the case.
Police further said that the 21-year-old suspect is believed to have been the rider of the motorcycle which involved in the murder which took place in Thalduwa.
The police constable who was injured in the incident is currently being treated at the Avissawella base hospital in central critical condition, the police said (NewsWire)
