Several vehicles parked outside the Siyapath Sevana apartment complex in Dematagoda were destroyed in a fire that broke out early Friday morning, Police said.
According to Dematagoda Police, a station wagon and six three-wheelers caught fire under suspicious circumstances.
A call to the Police emergency hotline 119 had alerted authorities to the incident. Dematagoda Police immediately and coordinated with the Grandpass Fire Brigade.
Residents assisted in extinguishing the fire, preventing it from spreading to over 300 three-wheelers parked nearby.
Officials from the Colombo North Crime Division and the Government Analyst’s Department have been called in to inspect the scene. Police said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined but noted that the circumstances raise suspicion.
