The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the Court of Appeal today (12) that no decision has been made at this time to arrest former Minister Udaya Gammanpila.

The court was informed in this regard when the writ petition filed by Gammanpila, requesting an order to prevent his arrest under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), was taken up for consideration today.

In his writ petition, Gammanpila has claimed that the CID was preparing to arrest him under this Act.

Deputy Solicitor General Sudarshana de Silva, appearing on behalf of the CID, informed the court that the police have not made any decision to arrest Udaya Gammanpila at this time.

He further stated that investigations are still ongoing and that any final decision will be made thereafter.

Accordingly, the hearing of the petition has been postponed until the 17th of September. (Newswire)
