The court of Appeal said today (22) it will deliver its order on January 30th, on petitions seeking to nullify the remand detention of two Buddhist monks arrested in connection with the controversial Buddha statue incident in eastern Sri Lanka.
The petitions were filed by lawyers representing Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thera and Ven. Kalyana Wansa Tissa Thera of Trincomalee, who were placed in remand custody following the incident. The monks are seeking an order invalidating the directive that sent them to remand prison.
The announcement was made after the petitions were taken up for consideration today (22) before a two-judge bench of the Court of Appeal comprising its president, Justice Rohanta Abeysuriya, and Justice Priyantha Fernando. (NewsWire)
