Govt to prioritize exports amid economic challenges – President

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the government will take all necessary measures to prioritise exports and address challenges facing the sector. He made the remarks at a meeting with leading exporters and representatives of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce at the Presidential Secretariat on Thursday (19).

Discussions focused on measures needed to manage current challenges and minimise the impact on the national economy, with particular attention on ensuring fuel access for exporters, manufacturers and service providers.

Participants also discussed issues affecting the sector and proposals put forward by exporters and industry representatives.

Among those present were Labour Minister and Deputy Finance Minister Anil Jayantha Fernando, Finance Ministry Secretary Harshana Suriyapperuma, and Presidential Economic Adviser Duminda Hulangamuwa.

Also attending were Sri Lanka Export Development Board Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe and industry representatives, including Brandix Group CEO Ashroff Omar and Joint Apparel Association Forum Chairman Felix Fernando.

Representatives from export-related organisations, including the tea, rubber and coconut sectors, as well as logistics and manufacturing bodies, also took part in the discussion.
