An 11-year-old Buddhist monk has died after drowning while bathing in the Heen Ganga in the Kaikawala area of Ududumbara, police said.
The incident occurred on September 13, and Ududumbara Police launched an investigation following a complaint regarding the drowning.
According to police, the young monk had been residing at a temple located within the Minuwangoda Police Division.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the monk had travelled to Ududumbara to participate in an almsgiving ceremony and later went to bathe in the Heen Ganga with several other Buddhist monks.
The 11-year-old monk reportedly drowned while bathing in the river.
Ududumbara Police are conducting further investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
