Prime Minister Harini scheduled to address Oxford forum in UK

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has departed for an official visit to the United Kingdom to participate in the 22nd Annual Commonwealth Education Forum and the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) 2026 Board of Governors Meeting.

According to the Prime Minister’s Media Division, the visit will include several high-level academic and diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening cooperation in education, research, development studies, and international partnerships.

During the visit, Prime Minister Amarasuriya is scheduled to meet UK Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson at the UK Department for Education to discuss cooperation in education and related sectors.

She is also expected to hold discussions with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on matters of bilateral interest and cooperation between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.

On the sidelines of the Commonwealth Education Forum and the COL Board of Governors Meeting, the Prime Minister is also expected to meet Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.

The Prime Minister will additionally participate in an event at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex and attend the institution’s 60th anniversary ceremony.

She is also scheduled to address a session at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies at the University of Oxford, followed by a question-and-answer session with scholars and students.

The Prime Minister’s Media Division said the visit is expected to strengthen Sri Lanka’s engagement with academic institutions, international development partners and Commonwealth member states, particularly in education, research, policy dialogue and capacity building. (Newswire)
