LAUGFS Holdings Ltd. has announced the appointment of Mithila Wegapitiya as its new Vice Chairman, following the resignation of co-founder Thilak de Silva. This leadership change comes in the wake of a major investment earlier this month, when Vallibel Three Ltd., owned by prominent industrialist Dhammika Perera, acquired a 50% shareholding in LAUGFS Holdings.
In his new capacity, Wegapitiya will oversee strategic initiatives across the group, with a particular focus on financial restructuring, organisational realignment, post acquisition strategy formulation, business expansion, and internationalisation.
A seasoned executive, Wegapitiya currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of LAUGFS Power PLC, one of Sri Lanka’s leading public-listed renewable energy companies. He is also a Group Executive Director for LAUGFS Holdings, which now encompasses 26 diverse companies spanning power & energy, oil & gas, manufacturing, retail, and pharmaceuticals.
Born to founder and Chairman W.H.K. Wegapitiya, Mithila Wegapitiya brings over 15 years of global business experience. His career includes senior roles at Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment (London), Ve Interactive (London), Deutsche Bank (Asia), and at Virtusa Corporation across Sri Lanka, the Asia-Pacific region, and the Americas.
In 2016 he co-founded POTENZA, a technology consulting and digital transformation firm specialising in SAP consulting, data & analytics, intelligent automation and artificial intelligence. POTENZA operates in multiple countries, including its headquarters in Singapore and Australia, and serves major clients such as Bombardier, Bacardi, AIA Insurance and others.
Educationally, Wegapitiya is an alumnus of Aston University, UK, and holds an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), Sri Lanka. He has also been active in national technology leadership, including membership in the executive committees of SLASSCOM’s Intelligent Automation Centre of Excellence, the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS), and service on the board of Sri Lanka’s Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT|CC).
