Opposition MP Dr. Harsha de Silva has raised concerns over governance and possible conflicts of interest following the resignation of SriLankan Airlines Chairman Sarath Ganegoda.

Reacting to the resignation, Dr. de Silva said the appointment “stank from day one”, alleging it created a major conflict of interest involving not only Ganegoda but also senior executives linked to Hayleys, citing overlapping interests in aviation services, logistics and related sectors.

He also questioned the involvement of Presidential Advisor Duminda Hulangamuwa and auditing firm EY, raising broader governance concerns surrounding the national carrier.

Dr. de Silva further noted that some may accuse him of bias, adding that he would not elaborate further but suggested others independently examine the issue.

At the same time, he praised Presidential Advisor Hans Wijayasuriya, noting that he resigned from his private sector roles before taking up his advisory position, describing it as the correct approach to avoid conflicts of interest. (Newswire)
