A special dengue control operation covering 23 high-risk areas in the Western Province will begin Sunday (5), under the coordination of the Clean Sri Lanka programme.

The decision was taken at a meeting held today at the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat to discuss measures to curb the rapid spread of dengue.

The operation will be carried out on behalf of the Presidential Secretariat with the participation of the health sector, the Tri-Forces, Sri Lanka Police, District and Divisional Secretariats, local government authorities, volunteer organisations and other state and community stakeholders.

The 23 high-risk Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas identified for the operation are:

Colombo District: Maharagama, Kaduwela, Homagama, Gothatuwa, Battaramulla, Piliyandala, and Colombo Municipal Council areas D1, D3 and D4.

Gampaha District: Biyagama, Kelaniya, Seeduwa, Ja-Ela, Mahara, Wattala, Negombo and Minuwangoda.

Kalutara District: Panadura, Bandaragama, Horana, Ingiriya and Kalutara.

Authorities said the campaign aims to increase public participation in dengue prevention while intensifying mosquito control measures across all 23 identified high-risk areas. (Newswire)
