Russia’s ruling United Russia party has secured more than 57% of the vote in the country’s parliamentary election, according to preliminary results announced by the Central Election Commission on Monday, September 21.
With more than 95% of votes counted, the party, which supports President Vladimir Putin, received 57.83% of the vote, up from 49.8% in the 2021 parliamentary election, Reuters reported.
The results are projected to give United Russia 355 seats in the 450-member State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament, allowing it to retain its constitutional majority.
Putin had presented the election as a test of public support for Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The results remain preliminary, with the final vote count yet to be announced. (Newswire)
