A Police Sergeant attached to the Ja-Ela Traffic Division has been arrested by the Bribery Commission.
The officer allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 15,000 from a motorcyclist who had been stopped for crossing a closed railway crossing. He is accused of accepting the payment in exchange for returning the motorist’s driver’s license.
Officials of the Bribery Commission arrested the suspect on Saturday, Aug. 23. The Sergeant was produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court and remanded until Sept. 4, 2025. (Newswire)
