The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has invited applications for its 2026 Youth Camp on Human Rights and Social Responsibility, scheduled to be held from Oct. 26 to 31.
The six-day residential programme will bring together 55 young people aged 18 to 29 from all 25 administrative districts, with the aim of developing young leaders who can understand and respond to contemporary human rights challenges and contribute as active and responsible citizens.
Participants will take part in interactive learning sessions, leadership development activities, group discussions, simulations, practical exercises, community activity planning and team-building programmes.
The camp will cover areas including human rights, integrity, accountability, equality, non-discrimination, diversity, democratic participation and social responsibility.
It will also address challenges affecting young people, including drug use, corruption, cybercrime, misinformation, hate speech, violence, discrimination, environmental degradation and mental health concerns.
Applicants must be aged 18 to 29, be able to communicate effectively in Sinhala, Tamil or English and demonstrate an interest in human rights, leadership, inclusion and diversity.
They must also be willing to participate fully in the programme, plan and implement community-based human rights activities after the camp, demonstrate responsibility and teamwork, and have an affiliation with a youth group, organisation, institution, network or similar body through which they can contribute to promoting human rights.
Two participants from each of the 25 districts will be selected, along with five additional participants, including persons with disabilities and members of other marginalised groups, to promote diversity and inclusion.
Residential facilities will be provided by the HRCSL, while eligible transportation expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the Commission’s rules and procedures. Participants must attend the full programme to qualify for transportation reimbursement.
