A Sri Lankan passenger arriving from Thailand was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Tuesday (26) after customs officers detected a stock of “Kush” narcotics concealed in his luggage.
The suspect had arrived from Bangkok on SriLankan Airlines flight UL403 at around 9.35 a.m.
Officials attached to the Customs Narcotics Control Unit arrested the 24-year-old suspect, a resident of Gampaha, after discovering the drugs hidden inside bags he had brought into the country.
Authorities estimated the street value of the seized narcotics at approximately Rs. 83.65 million.
The suspect and the seized drugs were later handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau at Katunayake Airport for further investigations. (Newswire)
